Mactaggart & Mickel Senior Site Manager Stuart Gillespie Leads By Example
From Apprentice Joiner to award-winning Senior Site Manager, Stuart Gillespie epitomises many of the qualities that Mactaggart & Mickel are proud of.
Stuart started out as a trainee at Mactaggart & Mickel and has worked his way up the company to become a Senior Site manager and the winner of multiple awards.
Since leaving school 30 years ago, Stuart has won plaudits galore for the company and himself by displaying a passion, commitment and determination to ensure Mactaggart & Mickel produce homes of exceptional quality.
His leadership qualities and high levels of consistency came to the fore amid the unprecedented challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic at our prestigious Greenan Views development, in Doonfoot, Ayrshire.
Stuart’s work there saw him honoured at the National House Building Council Pride in the Job Regional Awards – which underlined his incredibly high levels of consistency.
He was named Regional Winner for the Medium Builder category which means he now has 11 NHBC Scottish regional awards to his credit thanks to a meticulous attention to detail at the Mactaggart & Mickel site.
Regarded as one of the building industry’s top personal honours, it recognises Stuart’s role in overcoming the challenges created by Covid-19 by leading a team of company colleagues and sub-contractors whose dedication contributed to this award.
Leading a team of company colleagues and sub-contractors whose dedication contributed to this award, Stuart won the award after being assessed across six areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.
He then scooped a runner-up prize in the highly-regarded NHBC UK Supreme Awards, in connection with his work at Mactaggart & Mickel's Greenan Views development in Doonfoot.
That was the latest in a series of personal successes for Stuart and followed four UK Supreme wins and four UK Supreme runner-up awards as well as the 11 NHBC Scottish regional awards.
NHBC, the UK’s leading new home warranty and insurance provider, launched the first Pride in the Job competition in 1980 to celebrate the UK’s best performing site managers building homes and have become the most highly-regarded competition in the industry.
Ed Monaghan, Mactaggart & Mickel Group Chief Executive, said the company is “immensely proud of Stuart” and saluted his “incredible leadership qualities and astonishing levels of consistency over the years which prove he’s a brilliant site manager”.
Describing Stuart as a “real credit to Mactaggart & Mickel”, Peter Shepherd, Director at Mactaggart & Mickel, said he “leads by example and typifies the attention to every detail that is at the very heart of Mactaggart & Mickel’s approach for generations”.
As for Stuart Gillespie, he is always the first to attribute his personal success to his colleagues.
“Since I joined Mactaggart & Mickel as an apprentice joiner, every day on site I’ve seen a real focus on delivering quality homes for our customers and I am proud to be part of a company who constantly strive for excellence,” Stuart said.
“We know from customer feedback that our new home-owners really appreciate everything we do to ensure they enjoy homes of exceptional standards – that’s the ultimate seal of approval and that has inspired me every single working day with Mactaggart & Mickel since I left school.”
